Bearsted Station Roadside Nature Reserve
Empowering Sustainability Through Local Action
Discover how you can contribute to a greener future by participating in our events.

Alongside climate change, the depletion of our natural environment leading to the rapid decline in biodiversity across the planet is incredibly concerning.

Apart from attempting to exert political pressure and making small changes to our own lifestyles, it can feel that there is little we can do, as individuals, to influence the bigger picture. However, it is possible to make an impact, albeit small, in our local area.
Our Approach
Bearsted CAN responded to an approach from the Parish Council and eagerly took on the maintenance and development of a KCC – owned site opposite Bearsted Station.
The site had previously been cleared of all natural vegetation and planted with a variety of garden shrubs but the ongoing costs of maintaining the site were later considered to be prohibitive. A hedge of native species had also been planted along the southern boundary.
